Celebrating International Day of the Girl Child 2024 with a Historic Milestone! 🌟

This International Day of the Girl Child, we at IREMO are overjoyed to share an incredible achievement that marks a significant step forward for girls’ rights.

A Historic Victory: Ending Early Girl Child Marriage

After years of tireless community sensitization, training, and capacity building, we are thrilled to announce that the Gabra community council of elders (the Yaa) has declared an end to early girl child marriage. This bold and commendable decision by the influential opinion leaders and gatekeepers of the Gabra community is a monumental victory for our mission and the collaborative efforts of our partners.

A Momentous Declaration

The declaration was made during a momentous event held at the Kalacha Cultural Ground. Attended by representatives from Oxfam, Diakonie Katastrophen Hilfe, and officials from both county and national governments, the occasion was a powerful display of unity and shared commitment to gender equality.

The Power of Collaboration

This milestone reflects the incredible power of collaboration. It is the result of unwavering commitment, joint advocacy, and the determination of numerous stakeholders working tirelessly to bring about meaningful change. Together, we are paving the way for a brighter, more equitable future for girls everywhere.
